Dr. Matthew Matava received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia. Following residency, he served a one-year fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Matava is currently an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery and Co-Chief of the sports medicine section of the Washington University School of Medicine. He serves as the head team physician for the St. Louis Rams football team and Washington University Athletic Department, and as an assistant team physician for the St. Louis Blues hockey team. His research interests include knee ligament surgery, meniscus repair and transplantation, and cartilage replacement. He is a member of several orthopaedic and sports medicine societies, where he has held various leadership positions. Dr. Matava and his wife, Michelle, have three children: Sarah, Christian, and Matthew.
