Dr. Russell earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Denison University in 1988 and his M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1992. He subsequently completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Washington. He has authored or co-authored many published articles and presents both nationally and internationally on his specialty of orthopedic trauma. As a recovering “big fellow”, Dr. Russell has a special interest in the effects of obesity in trauma patients and pursues this as his primary research focus. Additionally, he maintains his own healthy weight goals through exercise and wise eating habits. He has completed two Ironman races, one in New Zealand and another in South Africa.
