Raymond Rocco Monto, MD

Dr. Monto is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist on the Massachusetts resort islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.  He is a graduate of the Duke University orthopedic surgery residency program in Durham, N.C., and completed a fellowship in advanced shoulder and knee reconstruction at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. He received his medical degree from New York University in New York and graduated from Haverford College in Haverford, Penn., with high honors with a major in Biology.  Dr. Monto is a consultant reviewer for the American Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the British Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Journal of Arthroscopy.  He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Eastern Orthopedic Association and the Piedmont Society.  He has served as a team physician for United States Soccer since 1992.  He is widely published in international peer reviewed academic publications and has been featured in many trade journals and media as a spokesperson for the AAOS.  His primary research interests focus on the use of leading edge biologic treatments for chronic orthopedic injuries and disease, with an emphasis on cartilage restoration and platelet rich plasma (PRP) tissue grafts.
